Asking your partner for their hand in marriage can be the most daunting task you ever complete, even in the certainty their answer will be a resounding yes!
Popping the question doesn’t need to be extravagant to be memorable, in fact on our Twitter polls many respondents had said they’d prefer a simple and intimate proposal.
Here are 10 simple yet romantic proposal ideas:
1. Take your partner stargazing
Pitch up in the garden with cosy blankets or drive out to a national dark skies reserve if you really want to see the cosmos! Have them point out patterns or astrological signs to turn back to the surprise of a proposal.
2. Go on a romantic picnic
Little finger sandwiches, cakes and a mini bottle of prosecco could go a long way if the British weather holds up. You could keep the ring box in the bottom of the picnic basket.
3. Create a scavenger hunt
All you need is a pen, some scraps of paper and your imagination, leave a trail of clues that lead to the ring or a note with the big question on.
4. Make breakfast in bed
Everyone loves breakfast in bed from a cosy coffee or hot cuppa to pastries, a full english or continental, you could bring the ring box on the tray or hide a note under their mug or orange juice cup.
5. Cook their favourite meal
Unless their favourite meal involves flying to paris, home comforts will leave everyone feeling relaxed and happy. Light some candles and play their favourite music for extra points.
6. Use a board game
Whilst preparing the game, you could rig scrabble and have their letters already spelling marry me when they sit down to play.
7. Say it with dessert
Rather than baking a cake with a ring inside leaving your partner open to a host of dental disasters you could order a cake, donuts or cupcakes spelling out the words.
8. Recreate your first date
Could you go to the same restaurant or cinema and get the same seats? There’s just something so romantic about returning to where the spark began.
9. On the sofa
Just ask in the comfort of your own home, not everyone likes a huge show, there is never an imperfect moment
10. Propose with a sample ring
